Dr. Nikola Velkov, DVM - Associate Veterinarian

Background: Originally from Bulgaria, Dr. Velkov, affectionately known as Dr. Nick, began his veterinary journey over two decades ago when he came to the United States on a veterinary contract. He holds a master's degree in Veterinary Medicine from Thracian University in Bulgaria and graduated from the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) program in Illinois. Over the years, he has worked in various veterinary clinics in the Chicagoland area, accumulating extensive experience in orthopedic surgeries such as TPLO, TTA, FHO, and fracture repairs. Dr. Nick has been performing specialized orthopedic procedures at our hospital for several years, earning a stellar reputation among clients and colleagues alike, and officially joined our team full-time in 2023.

Professional Passion: Dr. Nick is deeply passionate about orthopedic surgeries, driven by his desire to alleviate pain and improve the quality of life for animals through surgical intervention. He remains dedicated to staying updated with the latest innovations in veterinary medicine to ensure that his patients receive the best possible care.

Family, Pets, and Personal Interests: Dr. Nick has been happily married for 23 years and is a proud father of two children. His family shares their home with two beloved pets: Simba, a 4-year-old cat, and Raffi, a 4-year-old French Bulldog. Outside of work, Dr. Velkov enjoys world travel, indulging in his passion for exploration and discovery.
